Michaelangelo Caravaggio: He Preached the Bible with Paint

About this event
Caravaggio seems a complete contradiction. He was the most striking artist of his time [1571–1610], not only for the quality of his art, but also for the spiritual messages conveyed in his church paintings, yet he led an utterly dissolute life, including murder. The course will introduce students to the most significant of his church paintings and interpret the messages contained within. Brett has seen many of these paintings in their church locations in Italy and Sicily. Other paintings he has seen in museums in Italy, Ireland, and the United States. The course will be in a slide/lecture format. Class Limit: 30
